Hair Fall Remedies

Hair loss is naturally occurring in both men and women and in some cases even children. In layman’s term hair loss is known as baldness but in medical terminology, it is known as alopecia.

Heredity, genetic build up, age, and environmental factors are some of the causes of hair loss. To this date, hair fall remedies are as elusive as the rarest gem, but a number of hair loss treatment options are available that have shown promising effects in slowing down or reducing the rate of hair fall, stimulating hair regrowth, replacing damaged hair and concealing balding or thinning areas.

Men with advanced balding may do well by undergoing hair transplantation or the surgical version of growing more hair. For thinning hair problem, non-surgical treatments that include solutions, sprays and tablets are recommended for continuous use to maintain regrowth. Cosmetic options such as wigs, hairpieces and concealers for hair loss may also provide great solutions.

Other hair fall remedies worth taking into consideration are vitamin supplements, herbal remedies, homeopathy and ayurveda – though no clinical proof can be presented to claim the effectiveness of these alternative hair fall remedies.

Let’s get a wider perspective on the different categories of hair fall remedies. This will give people with hair loss problem different options to choose from:

ANTI-ANDROGENS (Testosterone and dihydrotestosterone [DHT] Inhibitors)

Propecia and Proscar – the generic name of these branded drugs is finasteride which is the latest drug introduced in the market to treat male pattern baldness. This drug is prescribed for use by men only and not recommended for women.

The recommended dosage is 1 mg pill taken daily. Finasteride has not been established to help in cases of temporal hair loss or receding hairline. Some side effects have been reported including allergic reactions such as rashes, hives, itching, and swelling of the face, as well as problems related to ejaculation.

Revivogen – its natural ingredients inhibit the action of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase that is responsible for the formation of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Recommended application is 1 to ml of the topical solution in the affected areas of the scalp using the included dropper. There are no reported side effects since no significant amount is absorbed into the bloodstream. Precautionary warning – avoid getting the solution into the eye area.

CONCEALERS

Toppik – it works similar to Nanogen Nanofibres by concealing hair loss and providing immediate thickening effect. This concealer is made of natural organic keratin protein and charged with static electricity to enable it to intertwine and bond securely with the existing hair.

Toppik should be shaken over the desired area by holding the can right above. The hair should be towel dried or blow dried before application. No significant side effect except for occasional allergic rection.

GROWTH STIMULANTS

Low Laser Light Therapy – is a medical treatment that uses low levels of laser to alter the functioning of cells. Research on the effects of low level light therapy (LLLT) is still in the process and therefore its effectiveness in preventing hair loss and stimulating hair growth is still questionable.

Rogaine – is the brand name of the drug minoxidil. It is prescribed for the treatment of Androgenic Alopecia or male pattern hair loss and other types of baldness. It is categorized as over the counter drug. Application of 1 ml of the solution to the affected and thinning areas twice daily is recommended. Reported side effects include allergic reactions, fainting, faster heartbeats, and difficulty in breathing.

Tricomin – this treatment uses copper peptides to stimulate hair growth and does not alter the hormonal balance. It can be used by both men and women and on all hair types by spraying onto the scalp twice daily. No side effects were recommended during the trial. It is also categorized as non-medical treatment.

HAIR TRANSPLANT

Most men who are suffering from Androgenic Alopecia prefer hair transplant since the procedure is a permanent solution. The process involves getting hair from other parts of the body that are not prone to hair loss and transplanting them into the scalp. The most advanced process of hair transplant brought about by technological advancement is the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). The entire hair follicular units are transplanted with the use of micro surgical methods under local anesthesia.

Men and women suffering from hair loss problem should ascertain the nature and cause of their condition before considering any of the hair fall remedies offered in the market.
